Every single task had suddenly become a process with a fractured foot and being in a cast —showering, brushing my teeth, even moving from one room to another. Simple things I used to take for granted now required extra effort and planning. Fortunately, there are plenty of tools and essential accessories for life in a cast that can make the recovery process smoother. Unfortunately, there are so many options that finding exactly what you need can feel overwhelming.
After some trial and error, here are some of the products I found that made my life easier in a cast:
1. Cast Cover for Showering
Keeping your cast dry is essential. If it gets wet, you have to get it redone, which is a hassle. A waterproof cast cover is a must-have for stress-free showers. It’s reusable, easy to use, and keeps water out completely.
2. Shower Chair for Injury Recovery
Standing and balancing on one leg in a slippery shower? Not a great idea. We got a shower chair, and it was a game-changer. I could sit comfortably and not worry about slipping.
3. Cast Sock with Zipper for Warmth and Protection
My toes were constantly cold since they were exposed. This specialized cast sock with a zipper not only keeps my toes warm but also helps keep the cast clean. The zipper makes it easy to put on and take off.
4. Knee Scooter Basket for Hands-Free Mobility
One of the biggest frustrations was not being able to carry things while using crutches. The knee scooter already made mobility easier, but adding a small basket let me transport small items from one room to another without a struggle.
Each of these items has helped make daily life a little less frustrating. If you’re dealing with a cast, investing in a few practical tools can make a world of difference!
