Not every week comes with big wins—and that’s okay.
This week felt like a holding pattern in my ankle recovery journey. There were no major breakthroughs, but thankfully, no setbacks either. I continued with in-person physical therapy sessions, which remain a crucial part of my routine as well as Pilates. My PT reminds me regularly that healing isn’t always linear, and this week definitely proved that.
The ankle is supposed to move in four directions: up, down, inward (inversion), and outward (eversion). Right now, I’m only able to move it up (dorsiflexion) and slightly to the right, which is still progress—but also a reminder of how much further I have to go. I’m still wearing my compression neoprene ankle sleeve daily, especially after PT or walking, to manage swelling and support circulation.
Midweek, I did something a little outside the usual recovery routine—we went to an event where I ended up standing or walking for nearly five hours. I had a great time, but my ankle wasn’t thrilled the next day. Swelling, soreness, and stiffness kicked in fast. I took it easy for the next three days, stayed off my foot as much as I could, and relied on ibuprofen to keep inflammation in check.

On a totally unrelated (but fun) note, we tried Waymo, the driverless taxi service! It was such a surreal experience—no one in the front seats, just us cruising around the city in a car that was doing all the thinking. A few quick facts for the curious:
- Waymo is a self-driving car project by Alphabet (Google’s parent company).
- It currently operates in places like Phoenix and parts of San Francisco.
- The cars use LiDAR, radar, cameras, and AI to navigate safely.
- Riders can use the Waymo app just like Uber or Lyft—but no human driver ever shows up.
Even though this wasn’t a week of major recovery, I’m proud I kept showing up. Sometimes the win is just staying consistent.
